Composition

  • Marbofloxacin 5 mg per tablet (dogs, cats)
  • Marbofloxacin 20 mg per tablet (dogs)
  • Marbofloxacin 80 mg per tablet (dogs)

Pharmacotherapeutic category

Antibacterial for systemic use (fluoroquinolones).

Properties

Marbofloxacin is a synthetic, bactericidal antimicrobial which acts by inhibition of DNA gyrase. It is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as against Mycoplasma spp. Its oral bioavailability is close to 100%. It is extensively distributed and in most tissues it achieves higher concentrations than in plasma.

Indications

For the treatment of infections caused by marbofloxacin susceptible microorganisms, such as, skin and soft tissue infections and respiratory tract infections in dogs and cats and urinary tract infections associated or not with prostatitis or epididymitis in dogs.

Dosage, route and method of administration

Oral gavage: 2 mg per kg BW, once daily for minimum 5 days. The cross-snap-tablet of 20 mg can be divided into equal halves and quarters. The tablet of 80 mg can be divided into equal halves.
